UnitedHealth Group Incorporated is an American for-profit managed health care company based in Minnetonka, Minnesota. It offers health care products and insurance services. It is the largest healthcare company in the world by revenue, with 2019 revenue of $242.2 billion. UnitedHealthcare revenues comprise 80% of Group's overall revenue.

An ex-employee said this in a review “ A former employee warned me never to apply to UnitedHealth Group but I did not listen. The expectations are inhumane and impossible unfathomably so – you are buried in responsibilities that insidiously just keep getting added on every week and you are eventually worked to death – as in 9 hour days with NO break or lunch. As if this were not enough, you are timed on how fast you complete tasks. They don’t care if you get a break, it’s all about metrics and how fast you meet them and it’s never fast enough. I wondered more than once if the unreasonable expectations were a method to cause employees to become miserable and quit. After all, layoffs are expensive. The software is a treacherous, user hostile system that is a formula for failure. Management is a minutia driven study in unprecedented incompetence, ie, pay increases are based on how many errors you make which is ironic because the software is a treacherous mine field that invites errors. Training is in bits and pieces and is as illogical as the software with multiple preceptors/trainers all following completely different rules. You waste energy training on workflows that you will never use but will never ever get what you really need to complete tasks for your specific role. The national training is a travesty one size fits all approach designed to create conflict, contribute to confusion and enhance the intrinsic disorganization. Nonsensical workflows make for more confusion and chaos – there are too many rules with too many exceptions to everything and all of the exceptions have multiple exceptions as well as a maze of redundant processes that defy all logic. Micro-management is at the quantum level and if errors are found, you are at fault no explanations and no excuses accepted. All of the multiple changes are patch jobs that change back and forth daily. Nurses are not nurses but glorified plan administrators/customer service clerks. There seems to be a clique type dynamic within the “team”. It’s a marginalized, impersonal work at home gig that seems initially like a great opportunity until one day you snap, have an epiphany and just throw the whole mess into a box to send it back. Resignation is a request to the manager for a UPS label. Good riddance to Optum and anything else that reeks of UHC! This company is on borrowed time."

"You will get warnings without any real guidance on how to improve quotas. No home and life balance. Very unpredictable environment with tons of favoritism! If you thrive off things constantly changing after you just learned another then this is the place for you !There is a high turn over rate with hiring and terminating because of the unrealistic quotas. The pay is alright depending on what tasks you have. Benefits are not the best. You need to plan in advance when you will be sick. Cons: hours, benefits, favoritism"

Claims Representative Puerto Rico (Former Employee) says

"You will be micromanaged they have a program called Omega you have to punch in everything including going to the bathroom. The program to process claims is UNET wich is from the 1980's old and outdated and the other one is Comet from the 1990's old and outdated, extremely complicated both of them. Training is 90 days where you will be harrassed and pressured constantly by the trainer and by the subject matter experts assigned to "help you". Supervisors don't take part of the training process so they allow the harassment. Turnover is huge here and you will be treated like a "batch" where if you dont make it they will put you on basically corrective actions to fire you without really helping you to succeed. Cons: everything"

"Before covid UHG was a great company to work for. But within the department they decided to make changes that were not well planned. They are deciding to merge depts together too fast and implement system changes too quick. During covid they made some poor decisions and cost us employees with elevated stress lvls. I was overall happy with work from home but it was the only positive. In my five years I was not offered anything higher for promotion only lateral changes. Until they finish their transitions and movements, I do not recommend taking any jobs from them if you don't need it."

"Training is ok but once training is over you are stuck on the phone and every second is counted for. Even when going to the bathroom the time is counted against you. Cons: No breaks from the phone"

"No training when it comes to hardware, software or polices. When hired you receive two weeks training in how to be sympathetic and show empathy. After that period you are throw blindly into your position with no guidance. You are expected to look up all your answer from a glossary of out dated polices with current policies that are combined in a data bank called Kana/My Coach. Management is gender bias and fully discriminate. Cons: Mismanagement, No raises, gender discrimination"

"I worked at UHC in 2005 in Phoenix, AZ 15 years ago.. I was checking out the jobs in the Denver area where I live now and started reading the reviews. The reasons I left haven't changed at all: expensive health care benefits,, micromanagement, high stress levels, supervision, work levels and lack of enjoyment and pride in working at the company. "I used to love this place when I first started out until I seen how much you are just a game piece to them. You will bust your behind for them to pay you less than what your work deserves. Contractors are getting paid more than employees. They will find any and every reason to not give you your raise... the raise could literally be .15 cents. Management is pathetic. You never really have a set team. You will bounce around so much, no point in getting comfortable with who you meet. You will be micro managed and unrealistic goals will be set. In order to meet goals, you'll need to become a cold forceful person. If that's you then you will do great. I can say so much about this place and I have evidence as well. All I am going to say is run for the hills and don't look back"

"They make you feel unappreciated for all the hard work you do. They definitely have favorites who get promotions but these people are not by any means qualified for the positions they are receiving. Very sad because the really great nurses go unrecognized which leads to them ultimately quitting. The leadership lacks the ability when it comes to seeing the big picture. Like why are nurses quitting? Huge staff turnover as burnout happens very quickly working for this company. This could be avoided if nurses felt they had a voice and could approach management with their issues. Cons: No structure, lacking leadership, poor communication, feeling unappreciated"

"Production expectations are unrealistic. Mouse movements are monitored, so if you have to investigate health benefits or other issues, you constantly have to explain, each month, why your mouse was not moving for certain amounts of time (The assumption is always that one is not working). The timing system makes you feel as if you are completely being controlled. Workers with higher production numbers are "rewarded" with overtime, even if the quality of their work is very poor and causes re-work. Cons: Unrealistic productivity goals; Low regard for quality work."

"I’ve worked for several call centers in my years and this has by far been the absolute worst one. Management and leadership are highly unprofessional and belittling. You will not make friends here and be prepared to be heads down and overwhelmed with work so you don't have time to network or get help when needed - Hugely political environment"
